Delete your account
This page explains how to delete your SplitRound account (developer: João Abreu, Portugal) and exactly what happens to your data when you do. You do not need the app installed to make the request.
Option 1 — From inside the app
- Open SplitRound and sign in.
- Go to the Account tab.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Close account.
- Confirm. The account is emptied immediately and you are signed out.
Option 2 — By email
Email joaoabreu.wd@gmail.com with the subject “SplitRound account deletion”, from the email address registered on the account. Include the name on the account so it can be identified. Requests are acted on within 30 days, and you receive confirmation once the account is deleted.
There is one thing reopening cannot promise. Closing releases your email address and phone number straight away, precisely so that you can sign up again with them. If one of them has been taken in the meantime — most likely by you — that contact is left off when the account comes back, and everything else comes back regardless.
What is deleted
| Data | When |
|---|---|
| Your email address and phone number | Hidden at once, deleted for good after 30 days |
| Your password (its stored hash), and the link to your Google account if you used “Sign in with Google” | Hidden at once, deleted for good after 30 days |
| Your device push tokens and notification preferences | Hidden at once, deleted for good after 30 days |
| Your friend list, and your entry in other people’s friend lists | Removed at once, deleted for good after 30 days |
| Any password-reset or invitation tokens on the account | Immediately |
| Everything the app stored on your device | When you uninstall the app |
What is kept, and why
The expenses, payments and comments you shared with a group are not yours alone — they are what every other member’s balance is calculated from. Erasing them would silently change what other people owe each other, so those records stay in the groups they belong to. Your name stays on them too. It did not always: it used to be replaced with “Former member”, and later marked “(Deleted)”, and both made those rows harder to read for the people still in the group — a name is how they tell whose expense was whose. What tells them you have gone is the account itself, which shows as closed and greys your rows out.
| Kept | For how long |
|---|---|
| Expense and settlement rows you were part of, with your name still on them | As long as the group exists |
| Comments you wrote, and mentions of you, with your name still on them | As long as the group exists |
| Activity-feed entries in your former groups, with your name still on them | As long as the group exists |
| Receipt photos you attached to a shared expense | As long as that expense exists |
| Your contacts and credentials, set aside so that the closure can be undone | 30 days |
| Residual copies in routine database backups | Until the backup is rotated out, up to 30 days |
If you want a receipt photo you uploaded removed as well, delete it from the expense before closing your account, or say so in your email request.
Deleting a single expense or group instead
You do not have to delete your account to remove specific data. Inside the app you can delete an expense, delete or archive a group, remove a receipt photo, and change your name, email or phone at any time.
